Mansard Roof

Roof similar in form to a Gambrel Roof though differently constructed. It generally has hipped ends and a larger change of pitch; the term (named after Francois Mansard) is usually restricted to polite architecture. See Vernacular Architecture, 22 (1991), 24-6.
